Brimless Hats
It is appropriate to wear a Brimless Hat inside.
The tradition exists in cultures throughout the world. Names for Brimless Hats include: the Beret, Kippah,
Zucchetto, Skullcap, Smoker’s Hat (in the Den before the Man Cave), Doppa, Yamaka, Kufi & Fez.
Celebrations, dance, ritual, or to simply keep warm;the Brimless Hat can be found in halls, synagogues,
churches, homes, mosques, & walking through the countryside. Once I fully realized the extent to
which the hat is used in spiritual practice, prayer, and meditation; it dawned on me that the brimless hat
was further associated with looking inside one’s self.
Hat People has developed several versions of the Brimless Hat over the years, but this is the first time
we have offered them online. What you see here is not the full extent of the Brimless Designs we have created,

Yes, we are Artisan Hatmakers
The center of our presentation is the maintenance of hat booth inventory, which is mainly presented at festivals and weekend markets of the Pacific Northwest (see our Tour page). The Fabric Library page also gives you ~ Size Specific Ready Made ~ options. In addition to this, we make hats exact to size. Your special order hat(s) will be shipped to you via US Mail, to wherever you are, in the United States or around the world.
Our Process
To make your Hat People Hat tailored to size, we need time to finish the hat. Our line of Catalog Hats are brought to where setting the size is the very next step. It is at this point, approximately halfway to completion, that we await your order. It usually takes five to seven weeks to complete a hat order. We do not accept payment until your hat is ready to be shipped. People usually pay by credit/debit card via an online “Square” invoice, but there are also other options.
Working One on One

Our Brimless Hats
The Insider is named for all the types of similar hats to this that are worn inside. This hat could be for just being around the house, getting dressed up with a smoking jacket, worn as the daily hat of a monk or scholar, or possibly something more whimsical. The lower band of material is a double layer which can fold down and cover your ears if you want to wear the hat for warmth. Not only appropriate for inside wear, it will segue seamlessly into the natural world. The top of the hat is medium weight Pendleton Wool; as is the jacquard ear muff/trim. A wool hat can be worn for style anytime, but also is especially good in the rain. It will wick moister to a certain degree, and if it gets wet through it will still keep you warm.
